INVEST ATLANTA CEO BRIAN MCGOWAN APPOINTED TO
INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL BOARD

ATLANTA – February 3, 2012 – Brian P. McGowan, President and CEO of Invest Atlanta, the economic development arm of the City of Atlanta, was appointed to the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) board on Jan. 29, 2012 at its headquarters in Washington, D.C.
 
“I look forward to joining this board, especially now, as communities across the United States continue to struggle with the after effects of the global recession,” said Brian McGowan, President and CEO of Invest Atlanta. “The IEDC is a cutting-edge organization that has led and supported the economic development profession for many years. I look forward to working with my fellow board members, contributing my experience, and discovering new ways improve the economic outlook for Atlanta.”
 
As a board member of IEDC, Mr. McGowan will contribute to the non-profit organization which helps economic developers do their job more effectively, thereby raising the profile of the profession.  The goal of the organization is to create more high-quality jobs, develop more vibrant communities and generally improve the quality of life in its member regions.
 
“We’re thrilled that Brian has been selected to serve on the Board,” said Jeff Finkle, IEDC’s President & CEO. “His extensive experience serving in the Obama Administration as U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce, the Schwarzenegger Administration as California's Deputy Secretary of Commerce, and his local and international economic development experience make him a natural choice for this appointment. We welcome his expertise and look forward to working with him.”
 
McGowan will serve a two-year term, running through 2014.
 
The IEDC is the world’s largest professional organization for economic development practitioners, with more than 4,500 members in the U.S. The organization provides information on numerous trends and best practices, networking opportunities, professional development courses and other services.
