Students in Atlanta not only pursue higher education, they complete it.
Over 28,000 students graduate each year with a Bachelor’s degree or higher,
ranking the region 6th in the nation.
Look out, Boston and Berkeley, metro Atlanta's population of 183,000 college students is studying everything from fine arts to high tech at 45 area accredited colleges and universities that grant degrees and give student aid. This adds up to one of the largest concentrations of higher education in the country (Atlanta ranks #7) and packs a multibillion-dollar annual wallop for our local economy. Atlanta Regional Council for Higher Education, ARCHE, President Michael Gerber estimates that higher education in Atlanta has an annual economic impact of $10 to $12 billion, and that's not even factoring in student spending on everything from pizza to auto maintenance to clothing to concert tickets -- or the effect schools have on the area's workforce, including health care.
