Façade Improvement Grants Underwrite Openings of Trendsetter Restaurants

The imminent opening of two of the most anticipated new restaurants to come to Atlanta this year – Café + Velo and Georgia Beer Garden – is being made possible by Downtown Façade Improvement Grants (DFIGs) issued to both projects by Invest Atlanta.

Georgia Beer Garden received a $233,000 DFIG for the renovation of its building at 420 Edgewood, while Café + Velo is leasing space in 381 Edgewood, which obtained a $111,000 DFIG. The grants were issued through IA’s Eastside Tax Allocation District (TAD).

Café + Velo is a one-of-its-kind space – a café and bike rental shop with a large patio and rooftop dining deck that will host morning yoga and a mini croquet course.

Georgia Beer Garden will serve only beers from Georgia breweries (24 of them on tap) to go with a Southern-style menu that features a German influence – think the likes of country chicken and biscuits with schnitzel. The third floor of the space will become a sports bar.

In addition to these two buildings, 145 Auburn, which houses Condessa Coffee and Arden’s Garden, and 339-347 Edgewood, where Uptop Lounge and the recently announced Hungry Ghost, an Asian street food concept from the owners of Poor Calvin’s, are recipients of DFIGs from Invest Atlanta.
