The Invest Atlanta Economic Development team traveled to Las Vegas in October for Money 2020, the world’s largest payments and financial services innovation conference. Working with the state of Georgia, the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, and FinTech Atlanta, Invest Atlanta had an incredibly successful time in Las Vegas as the city, state, and region continue to rise as a leader in the FinTech industry.
The region was well represented at Money 2020, with 20 large Atlanta companies and 156 FinTech companies with a Georgia presence in attendance. In addition, 12 speakers and 14 panel sessions focused on the region’s strengths in the FinTech industry. In addition, the FinTech Atlanta team hosted a high-profile curated discussion with Bloomberg at a CEO dinner, while more than 60 people (14 large funds) attended their venture capital reception. The team hosted more than 10 individual meetings at a sold-out reception attended by 300 people. In addition, FinTech Atlanta posters and signs around could be sign throughout the event space.
Atlanta has become known as “Transaction Alley” for its role as the epicenter of a growing segment of the FinTech, or financial services, industry. Around 70 percent of U.S. financial transactions pass through Georgia. The state’s FinTech companies generate an annual revenue of more than $72 billion, and collectively process more than 118 billion transactions per year. Together, this represents $2 trillion of purchase volume each year, supporting nearly 4 million merchants.
