NerdWallet Names Atlanta the Most Mobile-Friendly City in the U.S.

NerdWallet, perhaps the leading American personal finance website, has named Atlanta the most mobile-friendly city in the U.S.

After examining mobile phone usage in the 50 largest U.S. cities on the basis of factors such as best connection and in-person customer service, carrier network performance and coverage, taxes and fees, and even crime risk, NerdWallet proclaimed Atlanta to be the best of the best.

“Georgia’s largest city and capital tops the list when it comes to mobile friendliness,” stated NerdWallet. “The city ranked near the top in all of our metrics — it was No. 2 in carrier network coverage among all 50 cities we measured, and third for customer service, with 8.40 mobile phone stores for every 10,000 residents. It also has the second-lowest wireless tax rate — federal, state and local taxes combined — of the top 10 cities.”

Atlanta had upload and download speeds of 8.35 and 13.12 MBPS, 89 percent coverage above the national average and eight mobile phone stores for every 10,000 residents.

Rounding out the top list of the top 10 mobile-friendly cities, in order, were San Diego, Sacramento, Seattle, Chicago, Houston, Long Beach, California, San Francisco, Virginia Beach and Austin.

Invest Atlanta has been intimately involved in supporting start up and established companies and technology innovators that have thrived in Atlanta because of the strong mobile industry presence here. Co-working centers such as Atlanta Tech Village, Flatiron City and Switchyards that are leading-edge users of mobile technology have made Atlanta an epicenter of global brands.

Pacesetters such as Parkmobile, the leading provider of on-demand and prepaid mobile payments for on- and offsite parking, typify the kind of mobile-savvy businesses that have made Atlanta ground zero for their operations.
