Invest Atlanta and City leaders celebrated the grand opening of three new food access points serving communities throughout Atlanta. The Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB) Community Food Center, Goodr Be On Edgewood and Azalia Fresh Market are all open for business and further increasing the availability of fresh, nutritious food for those in need.
Community Food Centers
Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB) Community Food Centers are direct-to-families pantries established in areas with limited resources to meet the needs of those experiencing food insecurity. The newest Community Food Center opened its doors in the Adamsville neighborhood, giving residents the opportunity to choose their own food and household goods. Located in a former Family Dollar, the 9,000 square foot commercial space allows the ACFB to serve more than 700 families each month. Invest Atlanta supported this effort with a $250,000 Food Access Catalyst Grant and a $250,000 Hollowell/MLK Tax Allocation District (TAD) investment.
Goodr Be On Edgewood
Goodr Be On Edgewood is the culmination of years of partnership resulting in tangible outcomes for residents in the Sweet Auburn neighborhood. Through a $1.45 million Eastside TAD grant from Invest Atlanta, Be On Edgewood rehabilitated an old building on Edgewood Avenue at an affordable rate, which in turn allowed them to provide Goodr an affordable rent. The opening of the Goodr Be On Edgewood grocery store ensures that 200 families will receive free groceries each month for a year. Invest Atlanta supported Goodr with a $300,000 Atlanta Food Access Catalyst Grant.
Azalea Fresh Market
With financial assistance from an Invest Atlanta Food Access Catalyst Grant, Savi Provisions opened Azalea Fresh Market, a municipal grocery store located in Southwest Atlanta. Partnering with vendors and local farmers, the market will feature fresh food and offer convenient hours to accommodate diverse schedules. It also promotes affordability by accepting SNAP benefits and providing special promotions and discounts. An additional location in Downtown Atlanta is planned, which will be operated by Savi Provisions through a sublease agreement with an existing tenant.
