Through a $500,000 investment, Invest Atlanta is supporting Atlanta Habitat for Humanity on two housing initiatives – one to deepen affordability with down-payment assistance and another to supplement an owner-occupied rehab program to help homeowners make needed house repairs.
The Invest Atlanta Board approved $250,000 in Housing Opportunity Bond – Repayment Funds to support Habitat homebuyers, providing up to $20,000 per unit as a 0% forgivable loan over five years. Delivered at closing alongside the Habitat first mortgage, this assistance reduces the overall loan amount and lowers monthly payments, making homeownership more attainable for working families.
The Board approved another $250,000 in Housing Opportunity Bond – Repayment Funds to supplement Habitat for Humanity’s Repair with Kindness program, which helps qualified homeowners with repairs to keep their house safe, dry and accessible. The funding will increase the repair budget for Repair for Kindness participants to $30,000, which is comparable to Invest Atlanta’s Atlanta Heritage Owner Occupied Rehab program. This collaborative owner-occupied rehab effort will support an additional 50 homeowners, as opposed to only eight through the Atlanta Heritage program using the same amount of funding, which will increase the impact of each program.
Atlanta Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit affordable housing developer focused on helping families build stability and generational wealth. Through a comprehensive, neighborhood-based revitalization approach, Habitat serves households earning between 30%-80% of Area Median Income, offering newly constructed homes financed with 30-year, 0% interest mortgages.
