The National Association of Local Housing Finance Agencies (NALHFA) honored Invest Atlanta’s Multifamily Development Team with the prestigious HOME Award of Excellence for its work on McAuley Station – an innovative health and housing district.
Located within the Sweet Auburn neighborhood and Martin Luther King, Jr. Historic District, McAuley Station is a master-planned community featuring mixed-income housing immediately adjacent to Mercy Care’s Decatur Street Clinic, Atlanta’s only healthcare-for-the-homeless program.
Mercy Care envisioned a health and housing district to not only provide premium healthcare to Atlanta’s most vulnerable populations but also ensure these same populations have access to safe and high-quality affordable housing. With support from Invest Atlanta, Pennrose, LLC and Saint Joseph’s Health System, Inc. (Mercy Care) partnered to build McAuley Station and make that vision a reality.
McAuley Station features a diverse range of living options, including 170 studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units, catering to a wide spectrum of household incomes, from 30%-80% of the area median income (AMI). Notably, the development incorporates 30 permanent supportive housing units for homeless residents, which are supported by Partners for HOME and are subsidized by the Atlanta Housing Authority HomeFlex PBV Program so that residents never pay more than 30% of their monthly income. In addition, McAuley Station has 10 dedicated respite units designed to provide short-term housing solutions for individuals in need of temporary relief.
The NALHFA HOME Award of Excellence is the most prestigious in the local affordable housing finance community, honoring the critical work that its members undertake in their local communities to provide affordable housing.
