Mayor Kasim Reed and Governor Nathan Deal joined representatives from Honeywell, Invest Atlanta, Georgia Department of Economic Development and Georgia Tech for a press conference to announce that Honeywell will establish a new first-of-its-kind software development center and establish the company’s home and building technologies headquarters operation in Atlanta. This project will generate more than 800 new full-time positions and a $19 million investment.

“I am pleased to welcome Honeywell to the City of Atlanta, where the company will join a strong network of Fortune 500 companies and tap into a thriving technology sector in Midtown,” said Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed. “Atlanta continues to build on its strong momentum in attracting global companies looking for important assets such as skilled technology professionals, a connected business community and unparalleled access to the global economy through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.”

Honeywell’s new Georgia operation will serve as a development center for software and technologies ranging across the company’s three divisions: Honeywell Aerospace, Performance Materials and Technologies; Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions. With this venture, Honeywell plans to create 733 full time software engineering and related positions. The home and building technologies segment headquarters will make up the remaining 100 jobs.

Honeywell is the third major company this year to announce plans to build a digital facility in the City of Atlanta. GE Digital and Keysight Technologies revealed their plans to locate digital technology facilities in the city that will create new jobs. The availability of top talent, access to Georgia’s research universities and the city’s pro-business environment are some of the reasons why technology companies are selecting Atlanta to grow their digital business.
