The Invest Atlanta Board approved a $925,000 Eastside Tax Allocation District (TAD) Grant to finance public infrastructure and small business improvements on Upper Alabama Street and Peachtree Fountains Plaza at Underground – just in time for FIFA World Cup 2026TM activities.
As part of the City’s preparations to welcome World Cup fans this summer, the area surrounding Underground will feature new lighting, shade structures, landscaping and public seating, as well as window graphics to improve façades of vacant storefronts and murals painted at gateway crosswalks. There will even be a pop-up soccer pitch and digital display screens for World Cup game viewing and events.
The TAD grant will also support small businesses, including a restaurant buildout on Pryor Street for Underground Diner, a pop-up storefront space for a temporary retailer and two food truck sites on Upper Alabama Street. This TAD-supported project represents the first of four proposed phases to enhance and re-tenant Upper Alabama Street and Fountains Plaza at Underground.
